On "Phosphouros Sincerely" Nina combines three of her favourites:
storytelling, the magic of an expressive voice and improvisation.
The stories - which she calls vocal poems - are ambiguous - often humorous and serious at the same time - with or without words. The content is inspired by everyday life, media and politics.
To tell the stories Nina uses every corner of her voice - in an organized way - yet improvised - she turns the inside out, groans and moans, bleats, breaks, gasps and yodels, pants, puffs, coughs and cries, wails, whines, and howls, recites, scratches, smacks and sings.
The room is without resonance - which makes it science fiction like and the sounds stand out like sculpures. The origin to "Phosphouros Sincerely" already arose in Ninas childhood. She grew up in a very isolated spot in Iceland - where there was not much entertainment. Nina loved to disappear into a story and she also remembers playing with sounds - a p that is kept back or exsploded - the fysical feeling of p on the lips and in the body.
Now she has for years improvised and played with her voice as a performer and teacher. She sings in the nordic world music group Klakki and in the improvising ensemble Madam Press.
